Lura will perform excerpts from this first-of-its-kind, four-concert series, featuring:
Bach’s complete Well-Tempered Clavier, Books I and II
Interspersed with the complete Shostakovich Preludes and Fugues, Op. 87
Celebrated Baroque composer Johann Sebastian Bach wrote two sets of paired contrapuntal exercises called Preludes and Fugues, one in each major and minor key of the chromatic scale. Together, these two books, known as The Well-Tempered Clavier, represent some of the most important pieces of music literature in the Western musical tradition. Two centuries later, Russian composer Dmitry Shostakovich embarked on the composition of his own book of Preludes and Fugues, inspired by the great Baroque master. This first-of-its-kind, four-concert series curates both composers’ work to reveal a shockingly unorthodox and most natural partnership.
The concert is free, but please RSVP to reserve your seats.
