NEW YORK, NY (October 26, 2021) – Yesterday, Steinway & Sons made history with its first public Spririocast. During the Spririocast launch, Steinway Artist and Oscar®- Emmy®- and Grammy®- nominated composer Kris Bowers performed a short set at the Steinway & Sons Beverly Hills location, and his performance was enjoyed remotely, in real-time, in the recital room at Steinway Hall New York City, along with dozens of other locations around the country. This “live” cross-country performance signaled the next step in the evolution of the piano with Steinway & Sons’ Spririocast: high resolution, live broadcast from one Spirio | r, the world’s finest high-resolution player piano, to another.
The Steinway-patented proprietary sensor system in Spirio | r captures the movements of the piano’s hammers and pedaling, and Spiriocast transfers the high resolution data to recreate an identical, perfectly in-sync, unfiltered audio, video and acoustical experience on any number of connected Spirios receiving the ’cast.
As a Spiriocast host, you may easily invite listeners to a broadcast from the Spirio app on your iPad. Once you go live, video and audio from your iPad will be transmitted to the listener’s iPad — or any connected device, such as an external monitor. When you play, the listening Spirios perform along in real time.
Steinway Musical Instruments CEO Ben Steiner said, “Spiriocast exemplifies how innovative technology continues to be a key driver of our global piano business.”
Spiriocast transforms the experience of live, remote performance. Spirio | r pianos around the world are ready for the software to be activated, and all other Spirio models will be upgrade eligible later in 2022.
“Using technology to recreate and transmit a truly musical acoustic experience only comes about from the unique development team we have at Steinway.”
“Using technology to recreate and transmit a truly musical acoustic experience only comes about from the unique development team we have at Steinway,” noted Steinway Chief Technology and Innovation Officer Eric Feidner. “That includes working with the world’s finest pianists every day, making sure we can capture every nuance of their playing, and then developing software and hardware that faithfully reproduces those performances on the finest acoustic pianos in the world.”
Following the Spiriocast premiere, Kris Bowers said “I am delighted by the possibilities that Spiriocast offers me both as a pianist and as a composer for moving my music forward.”
Capable of live performance capture and playback, the Spirio | r is a revolutionary blend of artistry, craftsmanship and technology that provides artists with powerful tools of expression, enabling them to record, playback, save, access, share and experience performances in high-resolution – enriching connection and intimacy with the beloved Steinway instrument. Via an iPad, Spirio | r permits listeners to access a vast library of music, virtually indistinguishable from live performance, including music and video of Steinway Artists, as well as Steinway Immortals including Duke Ellington, Glenn Gould, Arthur Rubinstein, and Art Tatum. Each month, the content library available on the Spirio app expands, automatically updated from the Cloud.
Available in a Steinway Model D, Steinway’s flagship 8’ 11” (274 cm) Concert Grand, or Model B 6’ 11” (211 cm), Spirio | r is designed to give artists and engineers intuitive controls in multiple file formats including Spirio high-resolution, MIDI and MP3 high quality sampled audio. Native to the Spirio app, the Spirio editor provides the world’s only advanced iPad-based high-resolution editing capabilities to Spirio files, preserving all of the music, allowing users to edit every nuance of their Spirio recordings.
